2017 was a good year for Normann Staffing, says Tony Marmo, president. The business more than doubled since we acquired it in May 2014, but the past\n year saw a dramatic change.
In the past jobs were mostly full- and part-time temporary positions. In 2017 we saw a dramatic 19 percent increase in permanent placements.
"It's the tightening labor market," he said.
Unemployment in the Mid-Hudson/Catskill region of 4.5 percent was up slightly compared to 4.1 percent in November 2016. But year-over-year private-sector\n employment between November 2016 and November 2017 was up 1.6 percent. It is the strongest November growth in three years, according to the state Department\n of Labor.
ÒWhen the labor pool shrinks, staffing agencies help employers find permanent people as well as temporary staff,Ó Marmo says.
